We love Saturdays. Saturdays have become a 'home day' in our house unless we have plans (like a function).
James has therapy Monday-Friday at select specialists dotted around New South Wales, so we are super busy during the week. James' psychologist wanted him to be doing something everyday, particularly before 12pm so that he can come home in the afternoons and regulate the mornings sensory overload. We do something everyday to keep him socially interacting. Forcing him out of the shadows. We are super lucky with James because he loves being out and about and he loves other kids, he just struggles to communicate to them at this stage.
Home day today was all about trying to clean and de clutter my house as much as physically possible! I am OCD so it really hurts me when I don't get through the list. But I have to remember my children are more important than having a clean oven (I THINK)..... I have contemplated getting house cleaners in but I find it strange that they will be looking at all my stuff!
Anyway... today I got through most things, got my grocery deliveries from Coles and Woolworths, got through painting fathers day presents and managed a quick Kmart trip with the two monkeys for some art supplies. Kmart really has some great cheap things for sensory kiddos... you just need to use your imagination.
Feeling a little flat today... This week in the news there was a story about a local ASPECT school locking a 13 year old boy in a 'cage', his mother was unaware of the abuse and it went on multiple times before they were caught. It then brought to light a story from 4 years ago about an Autistic boy being locked in a cage at a Canberra school.... this was actually a cage!!!! Then I was recently speaking with a mother (who is still RAW) about her son being abused in an Albion Park primary School.... this is still under investigation!
I am part of an ASD mothers networking group on Facebook and am laughably disgusted at the amount of OK NESS with some of these mothers whose whole responsibility is to make sure their children are safe. I am not going to go into this issue any further because I want to dedicate some writing to the issue. It makes me feel sick that these children can be treated like an animal! They have feelings like everyone else and they know more than yo know.
Well on that LOW note I am off to clean up another BEACH but this time its in my lounge room! Thanks kids!
